One thing I've learned in the last year is that three-year olds can get away with most anything as long as it's funny.
After the christmas craziness, we loaded up the kids one more time and headed to Charlotte, NC to celebrate the new year with the Carters. We had such a good visit to Bo's house (as Drew put it referring to their lovable lab), or to see the cow (as Ollie put it referring to their black and white spotted dog, Zoey) that Drew was very sad when it came time to say goodbye and go home. To ease his pain, Melody allowed Drew to take home a whoopee cushion that Trevor used to teach the kids the joy of fake farts. Thanks, Mel!
We stopped at Waffle House for lunch on the way home. Naturally, Drew insisted on taking his new whoopee cushion into the restaurant. Usually, he just slowly squeezes it letting out the air silently without much fanfare, he just doesn't have the weight to set it off in all its glory. So, what harm was there in bringing it into the Waffle House?
We were not seated for more than one minute when Drew inflated his whoopee cushion, put it down on the bench, sat down, and dhdbsdivjsbavfqrsyxsvwgdicovhgjthrgsbjvjdhebsjdh!!! After which, in his loudest outside voice, he announced to the whole restaurant, "I TOOTED."
Following this excitement, Drew went back to school and each day insisted on bringing his whoopee cushion to school. We made him wait for Friday to take it to school because on Friday's all the kids get to take something for show-and-tell. Naturally, Drew had been waiting for this day all week. He loves show-and-tell day. He has been dying to bring his new flatulent maker to school, and this was his chance. We weren't there, but according to his teacher, the show-and-tell presentation went like this:
Drew got up in the middle of the circle, pulled out his fart bag, and slowly inflated it up in front of the class. Bare in mind that this is a group of 3-year-olds, most of which have never seen a wind breaking device before. He set it on the floor, hunched over it, and sat down. I don't think I need to provide a lot more detail here except to say that the whole room broke out in laughter at the sound of the cheese being cut.
As a father, I couldn't be more proud.
