The Big Six.

Well, Mike and I celebrated our sixth wedding anniversary on Saturday, December 3.  It was a whirlwind weekend.  My oldest brother graduated on Friday from Nurse Anesthetist school at the Medical University of South Carolina.  I could not have been prouder.  Mike couldn't get off work to go, so I made an executive decision to bring Drew and leave Ollie at home with Daddy.

December 2nd (Friday morning) Drew woke up at 5:00 am, which was a tad bit early.  Since he was awake and we were packed, we decided to hit the road for Charleston, SC at 6:30am.  We made it in record time, five hours and 30 minutes.  We were able to get checked into the hotel and freshen up before attending the ceremony.  I had no idea the ceremony was so far from the hotel.  It really was only a few miles away, but with traffic, road closures, and my other brother with me made for a very slow trek to the graduation, so much so that I was fretting we were going to be late.  I hate being late. We pulled into the parking garage with exactly 6 minutes before the ceremony was to begin.  It was held in a beautiful small chapel.  The chapel was absolutely packed.  We were literally running to get there.  My brother, Chris, carried Drew.  Lauren and I were running with her two kids not far behind.  It was madness.  We walk in the door and were so grateful that Dutch's in-laws saved us a row of seats.  Thank god for saved seats.  We would have been standing in the back if they hadn't saved us seats.

The ceremony was just like any other graduation.  The speakers were incredibly boring.  In fact, at one point the lady talking said something about how passionate she was about this field of study and Lauren poked me in my side as she silently laughed at this statement.  There was no way this lady had an ounce of passion inside of her.  The monotonous tone said it all.

In any case, Dutch received his diploma.  We are thrilled for him and for his family.  It has truly been a difficult two years and at times I think he wasn't sure he could finish because of all the stresses, but he did!  He made it, and all of the hard work will pay off!

After the ceremony we went to a quick reception with the college, then onto a catered dinner at a rec center.  Tami had decorated it beautifully.  The kids had fun running from one end of the room to the other.  The food was yummy.  Drew even tried shrimp for the first time and liked it.  We bargained how many shrimp he needed to eat in order to get a piece of 16 layer chocolate cake.  Yum.

Drew finally had his first big meltdown as we were leaving the reception at 9:00pm.  I wondered when it would hit.  He actually held out longer than I thought he would considering he had been up since 5:00am, traveled a long distance, sat through a formal graduation, and then remained happy through 2 receptions.  It was about time.  It hit hard when we got back to the hotel as I was trying to get him in bed.  He finally did fall asleep around 10:30pm.  LATE!!  We slept late on Saturday morning, visited with family, and then hit the road for Atlanta.  We made it home in time for Mike and I to celebrate our 6th anniversary.  I do not have any pictures to memorialize the occasion so you'll have to settle for my stories.

Mike and I enjoyed a very loud dinner at Taco Mac with the kids.  It was the SEC Championship game that featured UGA & LSU and for those of you not down here....the UGA "dawgs" are the team to root for and it can get quite loud and ugly.  In fact, the SEC Championship game occurred six years ago on our wedding night featuring the UGA bulldogs and LSU (if you can believe it!), and I won't even mention how many of my family members asked me if we would have a big screen TV so they could watch the game but not miss the reception.  But back to 2011, the game being on essentially meant that the kids could be as loud as they wanted at dinner and not one person would bat an eye, not to mention that Mike and I could not talk to each other, which was kind of amusing since it was our anniversary.  Following dinner we went to get sundae's at McDonald's across the street.  The kids played on the slides while Mike and I recounted the past year.  It was a really nice evening, except the Bulldogs lost!

We finalized the evening by going to pick out a christmas tree.

I will say that I am in love with Mike more and more each day.  He holds a lot of qualities that I wish I had...and I discovered this year that I truly love traveling with him.  I cannot fully describe how much I have missed him on trips that I took this year.  He is the perfect travel partner for me.  And, it's good to know that the man I married is someone who I want to always spend more time with, even when we seem to be doing nothing at all.

Here's us on our wonderful wedding day.

Happy Anniversary! I am so thrilled that we now share the same anniversary!

We actually had to have the SEC champtionship game on at my reception! Luckily it was upstairs away from the party so it wasn't distracting.
