Chores!
Drew has developed a new routine. Every afternoon when Drew and I arrive home promptly at 5:00pm, he quickly grabs the tupperware bowl off the front porch, waits for me to open the front door and as soon as it is open, he dashes to the kitchen with the bowl in hand. He goes to the cabinet where the catfood is kept. He opens the cabinet, pulls out the catfood, and attempts to open the jug. After I help him with this, he attempts to scoop a full cup of catfood and then pour it into the bowl. This step's difficulty level cannot be underestimated. If I help him, he can totally get all the food into the bowl (with guidance). However, on his own about 1/3 of the food goes in the bowl and the other 2/3 goes all over the floor. At this point in time, the kitties are excited there is food all over the floor, kind of a buffet, if you will. When Huck & Murphy realize Drew is then taking the bowl to the designated catfood spot, they get excited and follow him all the way there. He's slow getting the bowl in the correct place, mainly because he is trying not to spill it and he's holding it with two hands and walking fairly slowly. This is odd because he does not use this much caution when pouring the food into the bowl, but who am I to complain? This may be his first chore and he loves it, so as long as that's the case I will continue to clean up catfood every afternoon.

Love Bites
Last Thursday I got the dreaded phone call from Drew's school. I am sitting at my desk at work when the cell phone rings and it says "Primrose" on the caller id. I am always worried when I get a call from them because it's never good. Ms. Christina says, Drew's fine, but there was an incident at school today. A little girl dropped her pacifier and Drew went to pick it up (probably to give it to her because he won't touch anyone's but his own) and in the process he was bitten on the right forearm.
This little girl took a bite out of his arm. Don't get in the way of a girl's pacifier! They promised me they cleaned it well, it didn't break the skin, but definitely left a mark, and gave him plenty of snuggles to make him feel better. When I picked him up that afternoon, he was perfectly happy. When bathing him that evening you could definitely see the bite mark on his right forearm, but more than that I thought - what powerful chompers to go through a long sleeved shirt.
This will be the first of many love bites, I'm sure. He was just trying to be gentleman by picking up her paci for her, but she didn't quite see it the same way.
As a sidenote, we're going on two weeks without the pacifier. He has done quite well with the new routine. He puts it in his crib when he wakes up and he leaves it in the car seat when he gets out of the car. No fussing, no crying. He happily puts it in its place. It has been a fabulous transition and not as difficult as I had imagined. I'm proud of the little guy!

January Adventures
The month of January has been unusually cold. We have been spending a lot of time indoors during the weekends. During the week we may have a nice day or two, but then come the weekend, it is nothing but cold temperatures and unending rain. Keeping that in mind we were really looking forward to going outside this weekend and when yet another cold snap hit, we decided we had to get out of the house. We planned to go to the children's science museum, but then when we got downtown there was a line out the door and parents standing around outside with their children bundled up. The guy at the parking lot told us that they were not letting anyone else in, so we may not want to park there. We thought that was very nice of him to inform us of this BEFORE we paid $6 for parking. We were right next door to the Georgia Aquarium so we spontaneously decided to go there instead. What a great idea it was.... Drew was the funniest, happiest, silliest little boy I have seen in a few weeks.

This is us as we entered the "Pacific Barrier Reef" which is a large room with a huge glass window showing all the various fish from the Tropical areas. Drew pointed, smiled, waved and basically ran around like nuts. As we attempted to leave this room to go to another area he would run back as if he would never see those fish again. It was adorable.
We had lunch and then ventured through some other displays, which he loved. Then it was snack time while we toured the River Scout exhibit. We were looking at the American Alligators while he munched on ritz bits. From here we went to the Georgia Explorer exhibit where all the Georgia aquatic animals were featured with a huge kids play area. Here is Drew on a large shrimping boat.
Of course it would not be a trip to the aquarium if we didn't show Drew our "fish". When Mike and I had been dating for a very little while, he bought a "fish scale". This is what the Aquarium was selling when they were trying to raise funds for the building to open. You could put your name on them or company or whatever. Mike chose to put "Elizabeth & Mike Chilson" on the fish scale even though we were not married, nor were we engaged. In fact, if I had said no to marrying him (not likely, but it was very early in our relationship), he would today be stuck with a fish scale with our names forever memorialized in the Georgia Aquarium. He must have been very confident. It was a gutsy move and apparently it worked. I later found out that he had bought this way before he had ever proposed. Today we went to show Drew this fish and the device that lights it up was not working so we could not see it. I suppose we will have to make another trip to see our fish. We played on the stairs and ran around upstairs instead.

We got back on the "no pacifier" wagon this weekend. Drew did fabulous all day without the soother, but by the end of the day had discovered his thumb. Interesting, huh?

On the way home we stopped for dinner at a Mexican restaurant. Drew ate grilled chicken, grilled veggies, mexican rice, and dessert - apple crisp with vanilla ice cream. Seriously, this little boy has an appetite. I, sometimes, am still in amazement at how much he can eat and what he tends to enjoy. The squash and zucchini and rice were a hit tonight. Then, of course, it was time for bath. Huck thought long and hard about getting in with Drew, but instead opted to enjoy the water and bath toys after Drew got out.
Drew has been in the routine of brushing his teeth every morning and night. Mike sings a little song with this activity and he does quite well doing it by himself. What a good day. Time for bed!
These are pictures from a week or so ago. I had bought the cutest penguin pajamas. They have orange feet and everything. Mike tried putting them on Drew, but could not get them on. Drew was too big! We put them on anyways - belly hanging out and all.

Preggers...
I am definitely feeling pregnant these days. I am huge and awkward. My back has begun to hurt, the heartburn has kicked in, and the sleeping has gotten worse. However, I am overjoyed with the thought of having another little boy join our family. On New Year's Eve we went for our 20 week ultrasound. It was a great way to ring in the new year. He, of course, was perfect and was confirmed to be a boy. I don't think Drew will have a clue what is about to rock his world until his little brother arrives, but until then we are enjoying all of our moments.
I am always amazed by the idea that a human being is growing inside of me. The process is really miraculous if you begin to think about it. I wonder what his personality will be like, what will he look like, who will he turn out to be? So much to ponder. It is exciting to say the least.
We have thought about names and then changed our minds and now are back to some of the first we were thinking of. When we are around the house we practice with some of them. I think we have settled on a name, but I'm not quite ready to tell everyone. A name is so important. I am thankful that I really like the name I was given. I am named after both my grandmothers and I am proud of that. They were strong women who were really good mothers.
I know my mom is watching all of this from heaven. She is chuckling about how this would have been her 7th grandson. Isn't he beautiful? It is a picture of his profile and tummy, up close. Everything about him looks perfect.
